Loup City Public Schools, located in rural central
Nebraska in Sherman County, is a consolidated district serving the
communities of Loup City, Ashton and Rockville, with 1/2 or more of the
citizens living in the rural area and a household income of $25,000 or
less. Currently, two campuses are utilized in educating the 341
students enrolled. In 1996, the district patrons approved by a
favorable 66%, a 4.6 million dollar high school addition allowing the
district to consolidate into two campuses, a K-3 building and 4-12
building, located one block apart. The two campuses are tied together
by fiber cable and a computer network for educational and communication
purposes.
In conjunction with the new high school facility, the district opened a
"state of the art" community library, equipped with a long distance
learning fiber optics room, computer labs, and other technology. The
library, a model for other communities and schools, is the cooperative
venture of the school and county. |
